What massage therapy is good for

Most guests come to Crystal Massage and Spa for the same three reasons: stress that won't switch off, muscle tension from desk work or training, and sleep that has stopped feeling restorative. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, part of the NIH, keeps a level-headed summary of what massage therapy can and cannot do, and the American Massage Therapy Association makes a similar case for massage as part of everyday health and wellness. Neither replaces medical care — and neither do we. What we do is start every session with a short conversation about what your body needs that day, then adapt pressure, pacing, and technique. A Swedish-style relaxation massage and a deep tissue massage for a locked-up shoulder are very different treatments, and booking the right one matters more than booking the longest one.

Stress, tension headaches, and sleep

If your shoulders live somewhere near your ears by Thursday, you're in good company. NCCIH's overview of complementary approaches for stress and Mayo Clinic's guide to relaxation techniques point at the same idea: the nervous system responds to deliberate, repeated downshifting. Tension-type headache — the most common kind, described in Mayo Clinic's explainer on tension headaches — often travels with a tight neck and scalp, which is why a head and scalp spa or a focused neck-and-shoulder session can feel disproportionately good. Acupuncture, cupping, and the Eastern side of our menu

Our acupuncturists practice within traditional Chinese medicine. NCCIH's plain-English explainer on traditional Chinese medicine and its page on cupping are honest places to start if you want to know what the evidence actually supports. We use fine, single-use sterile needles; cupping leaves temporary circular marks that usually fade within a few days. Acupuncture starts at $149, and plenty of guests pair it with a massage or facial on the same visit.

Arrive 10–15 minutes early the first time for a brief intake form, wear something comfortable, and skip the heavy meal beforehand — robes and linens are provided. Massage starts at $119, deep tissue is $129, hot stone $139, a head spa runs $129–$249, a customized luxury facial is $199, and medical or lymphatic drainage massage starts at $149.
